The audience was delighted when discovering the Lake Country Orchestra  would be presenting a somewhat green concert.  I can’t emphasize enough that more community support would be welcomed.  Keeping the attitude, talent and interest of the symphony members will enhance the musical community of Oconomowoc.  Let’s let our local musicians know they are wanted!

Norwegian Dances – Edward Grieg

Obviously, Edward Grieg resided in Norway.  Do you suppose these dances were written to celebrate the end of a long winter ?  The music conveyed joy and energy.

Irish Tune from County Derry- Percy Aldridge Grainger

Percy Aldridge Grainger was born in Australia but moved to Germany to study music at age 13.  This piece was an adaptation of “Londonderry Aire”, more widely known as “Danny Boy”, an Irish folk tune.

The Celtic Company

A musical dance group from West Bend, Wisconsin.  Wow ! What an inspiring show they delivered !  The fiddles were all in tune and were played while each performer danced.  This was a real St. Patrick’s Day treat.  The reels and jigs left the audience breathless (probably the performers as well).

Symphony No. 104 – Franz Joseph Haydn

Back to the wonderful music of Franz Joseph Haydn.  The moving violins and accompanying brass instruments created a pleasurable environment.
It is known as the last of the London Symphonies.  The London audience appreciated Mr. Haydn’s work so much, he received an excellent compensation for this composition.

“Danse Bacchanale” – Camille Saint-Saens

From “Samson and Delilah”

Samson and Delilah is a biblical tale encompassing a love story and destruction of an enemy.  Our French composer, Saint-Saens, created an opera using the biblical tale as a foundation for the opera. The music is a tribal dance around the expected appearance of Samson by his enemies. A very interesting piece.

Following the concert, the orchestra members hosted a gracious reception for guests.  Refreshments were served around a lot of discussion.  This was a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon!

The Lake Country Orchestra has 26 members dedicated to bring the world’s great music to our community.  They can use your support in many ways, donations, attendance and even volunteer musicians.
